8 EASY DIY FACE-MASKS

Trying to get rid of blackheads? Or is your face as dry as the Sahara desert? Or maybe you're just breaking out really badly? Well, I've got good news, these natural home remedies will have your back time and time again.

1. The Exfoliator

It's good to use an exfoliator once a week to get rid of those dead skin cells, but you could use this to target specific issues like blackheads as well. It's important to remember not to be too harsh with your skin and to always test your DIY masks on a part of your arm first. This is just a precaution to check for allergies or skin reactions before you put it on your face.

Sugar and olive oil/coconut oil:

HOW: Mix together a spoon of sugar and oil and add either according to how much you might need. Apply to your face and leave on for 5 min, as you rinse, scrub your face gently with the mixture. Wash off and tap your face dry with a towel.

Sugar will exfoliate your skin, and remove the dead skin cells while the oil will moisturize it.

Bicarbonate of soda, water, and lemon juice:

HOW: Add a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda to a bowl, then add about half a teaspoon of water and a squeeze of lemon juice. This consistency should not be running. Apply to your face and leave on for 5 min, as you rinse, scrub your face gently with the mixture. Wash off and tap your face dry with a towel.

Warning: when adding the water and lemon juice the bicarb will fizz, don't worry, this is normal. Add more of each until the desired consistency and amount is reached.

The bicarb will remove dead skin cells and the lemon is a good antioxidant.

Green tea and honey:

HOW: Use a green tea bag or fine loose green tea leaves. Pour about a tablespoon into a bowl and let it soak in boiling water. When the water has cooled, drain our all the liquid and add a teaspoon of honey and mix well. Apply to your face and leave on for 5 min, as you rinse, scrub your face gently with the mixture. Wash off and tap your face dry with a towel.

Green tea is anti-inflammatory and also has great antioxidant benefits, it also acts as a light exfoliator. The honey moisturizes your skin.

2. The Moisturizer

Over-washing and tired skin can cause dryness, leading to a dull appearance. If you want to give your skin some life and glow up a little, these masks are best.

Coconut oil and activated charcoal:

HOW: Mix a teaspoon of activated charcoal powder with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Apply this to your face and leave on for 10 min. Wash off and tap your face dry with a towel.

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer because it locks moisture into your skin really well, it also has anti-bacterial properties. Activated charcoal is a black powder that removes toxins from your body, you can drink this as well.

Warning: The charcoal may stain your pores for a while, so maybe don't try this mask before a night out.

Banana Peel:

HOW: Peel a banana completely, after you've done this, scrape the inside of the peel and place the mush in a bowl. Mush it further with a spoon and then rub it between your hands. Apply the mixture to your face and leave on for 15 min. Rinse with warm water and tap your face dry with a towel.

The inside of a banana peel draws dirt out of your skin and revitalizes it with vitamins and nutrients.

Banana and honey:

HOW: Mush half a banana until smooth, add a teaspoon of honey, and mix through. Apply this to your face and leave on for 10 min. Rinse with warm water and tap your face dry with a towel.

A banana contains moisture, vitamins, and minerals that hydrate your skin and leave you feeling glowy. It also lightly exfoliates your skin. The honey contains natural antioxidants and also helps to hydrate your skin.

3. The Acne Fighter

Tumeric and honey:

HOW: Mix a teaspoon of turmeric and a tablespoon of honey together. Use the back of the spoon to apply to your face. Leave on for 10 min and rinse with warm water. Afterward, tap your face dry with a towel.

Turmeric is a natural antiseptic and it's antibacterial properties help fight acne. The honey soothes your skin, helping hydrate it as well.

Warning: The turmeric may leave a few yellow smudges on your face or basin, but it is not harmful and does come off. So maybe don't do this mask before a hot date.

Tea tree oil, activated charcoal, and coconut oil:

HOW: Make a paste from 10 drops of tea tree oil, a few sprinkles of activated charcoal powder and half a teaspoon of coconut oil. This mask is not thick at all. Spread the small mixture across your face. Leave on for 5 min and rinse with warm water. Afterward, tap your face dry with a towel.

Tea tree oil has amazing antibacterial properties, and activated charcoal removes toxins from your body while gently exfoliating it.

Warning: The charcoal may stain your pores a bit, but it washes off. The tea tree may burn slightly as well, so just beware that it is natural for this to happen.
